The “What a View Tour” rolled through Raleigh on August 1, 2024, lighting up the night at Red Hat Amphitheater with its raw, unpolished Southern charm. Emily Ann Roberts from Knoxville, Tennessee, opened with her signature, soulful country blend, backed by her acoustic guitar and a voice that harkens back to Patsy Cline. Her set included tracks from her debut album, Someday Dream, along with a few singles that have gained her a loyal following. Her newest release, set to drop this fall, was teased with a couple of heartfelt ballads that had the crowd leaning in. Emily’s merch table was a nod to her roots, with hats, shirts, and even a custom guitar pick set. For more on her music and tour dates, check out Emily Ann Roberts’ website.

Next up, the Read Southall Band from Oklahoma stormed the stage, bringing a raw energy that swept across the amphitheater. With Read Southall himself on vocals and guitar, John Tyler Perry on lead guitar, Jeremee Knipp on bass, Reid Barber on drums, and Ryan Wellman on keys, their sound was loud, gritty, and unapologetically Southern. Their set list included tracks from their breakout album, Borrowed Time, and they gave a taste of For You, their upcoming album, dropping later this year. The merch stand, packed with T-shirts, vinyl, and even custom bandanas, gave fans a chance to take a piece of the night home. You can find more about the band’s music at Read Southall Band’s website.

Finally, Jamey Johnson, a country legend hailing from Montgomery, Alabama, took the stage, kicking off with his deep, resonant voice that filled the amphitheater like a church bell at dusk. Johnson, who hadn’t toured in over three years, began his 30-date tour earlier this summer in Nashville, Tennessee, and he plans to wrap it up in Austin, Texas, in late October. His band featured longtime collaborators: Cowboy Eddie Long on steel guitar, Kevin “Swine” Grantt on bass, and “The General” on drums. The crowd was spellbound as he rolled through songs from That Lonesome Song and The Guitar Song, alongside teasers from his much-anticipated new album, coming this winter. Johnson’s website, Jamey Johnson’s website, offered tour info and his exclusive “Ramble on with Jamey” merch, from signed LPs to limited-edition tour jackets.
