Ministry | Melvins | Corrosion of Conformity 3/18/2022

Ministry opened with the national anthem of Ukraine. That was refreshing. It’s so good to see folks that are in touch, understanding how fragile democracy is in our world, doing their best to educate, and share this essential spark of light. More power to Ministry. More Power to the Industrial Strength Tour 2022! For that, I’m more than happy to wear a mask in the pit. To do my best to protect these fine people.

Ministry’s performance was exhilarating. A major prop of the show was a metal fence set up between the band and the audience. I couldn’t help but to feel this as a statement of what these two years have felt like wearing a mask as we move about. Being present within our social circles but masked, fenced in without an ability to touch, inside a barrier, but safe, protecting ourselves, perhaps more importantly, those outside these barriers that need the protection from us! So the scene was poetic. Although really tough to photograph through! Poetry as a physical manifestation can be a formidable thing!

I loved the Melvins. Working in the beauty industry for the last 40 years I’ve move deeply through many trends, helping my clients express themselves. Occasionally a passion of the times will reach more deeply into my heart, and I’m always surprised when a musician will find that place, way, way deep down, pulling it out and showing me what it is, right in front of me on stage! Oh, and by the way, I had a brief encounter with these guys out in the parking lot after the show and they were both very nice. Real people. I immediately loved these guys. Grounded they were.

Corrosion of Conformity kicked my ass! There ain’t no question about it! I was waiting for the crowd surfers to make thier way over the barrier, and I was not disappointed. The band totally energized the venue and just destroyed any measly thoughts of self doubt or problems we might be carrying around in our baggage. Out with the fucking baggage! Rock! Thank you CoC!
