A few years ago when I first got the opportunity to cover Dream Theater, I was taking care of my 92 yr. old mom. The family agreement, (a close friend, mom & I), was that I could leave to shoot a show, but only for a few minutes, and then I had to go back home to continue to keep an eye on her.
I’ll never forget how I was overwhelmed by Dream Theater’s performance. By then I had about 8 years of covering bands and this one, blew them all away. I couldn’t believe the musicianship. My jaw hit the floor. And then the allowed time to shoot was over. I could of stayed to see the rest of the show but I couldn’t, I had to honor the family contract. I had to go. My chest sunk. My gut wrenched. I barely kept from crying. I left.
How great it was to see Dream Theater again. Unbelievable live. A joy. And do we need joy now. Keep an eye on these guys. Don’t miss them when they are back in town. And do yourself a favor. Find somebody to take care of mom while you’re out so you can swim in the vibe and not look back.
Arch Echo opened this show. Holy Smokes! Way beyond my expectations. Very tight. Mind boggling. Check them out. A perfect choice to support Dream Theater. I’ll betcha next time they’re in town they will be headlining.
