Marcus King | Hanna Wicklund 2/24/2022

Pulled into The Ritz’s parking to be soaked with the new parking rate of $14. Thank goodness I don’t drink no more ‘cause I’d hate to lose my inheritance all in one night.

Once I got in though, things were cozy. A sold out show too. And well worth it. The club was packed to the gills. I had made a note on my calendar to venture out into the world the day before, with covid and all, and I took the risk. With all my pre-existing conditions and advanced age, I risked my pre-conceived notions and went for broke…with my health that is. I’m writing this a day and a half later and I feel chipper, so far so good.

Hanna Wicklund opened, and Holy Cow is she great! I learned a lesson years ago to not skip the openers as, well, where do you think the headliners started? Don’t miss Hanna Wicklund! Make a special point to go out and see her when ever she passes through. And such a young thing. Dynamic! After her set she went out and mingled with the fans. Very accessible, a joy. She kills the six string. She’s the real deal.

Marcus King delivered. This was my third time I went out to cover this guy and he was better than ever. A wonderkind, a guitar god, this man’s music filled all the empty space between my ears, and then some. Just saying Marcus King is a great musician does not do him justice. I can’t wait for him to come back!
