Tab Benoit | Samantha Fish  5/8/2021

I almost hit a cow on the way in. In May of 2021, this was a big deal, getting out to shoot a show. Finally an adventure after a year of sitting home in the Pandemic of 2020 not just starring at the carpet, but also dealing with my mom’s death still six months before. So off I went. From Wake forest to Rougemont, the GPS took me on a 60 minute trip by lonely country road through the farmlands. With livestock challenges.

A beautiful drive. Perfect weather this night. Was a 50% chance of rain but the sky broke open, some orange in the clouds, and we had a clear night. Heavenly.

GPS took me precisely to the back stage at a crossroads, where a gentleman opened the gate and let me in. I parked near the stage. They were done setting up, about 10 or so of support staff, everyone was ready and set to go. Some sound tests were rapping up as I got to the stage, Samantha Fish was brought to location on a golf cart, and things got underway.

Tab Benoit and Samantha Fish tore up the Orange County Speedway in Rougemont NC. Fans were required to stay in their pre-determined rectangles of space. A kick-ass show enjoyed under the stars in your favorite lawn chair, cooler by your side. And the show delivered.

Benoit and Fish are both extraordinary guitarists in their own right, Samantha has the chops and creativity, and Tab, with his ferocious blues guitar, (a stock 1972 Fender Telecaster.)

Benoit’s blues, as heavy and soulful as it is has a sweetness weaved through out from his Louisiana roots.

Samantha Fish’s performance is an education in style as she continually swaps guitars and plunges through the set.

What a great night it was for the Blues with these icons at Orange County speedway in Rougemont, North Carolina.
