I had a chance to photograph the evening segment day one, of the three day downtown Raleigh music festival “Hopscotch”. Earlier, it was raining cats and dogs, flooding warnings were buzzing through the phone and smart speakers. But by the time I could get there, which was around 6pm, the sky had sunned up, the heat and humidity had tapered down, and there was just the faintest trickle of those pesky dogs and cats. It was another perfect North Carolina evening.
The Hopscotch festival has bands playing at all the music venues downtown day and night for the three days, with those with a larger draw playing two main stages at Moore Square and City Plaza. They are about two blocks apart, and it only takes a few minutes to go from one show to another which are staggered to keep the entertainment flowing smoothly. So that’s what I did. Once I got there I hopped from one main stage to the other and caught Caroline Polacheck, Shannon and The Clams, Hippo Campus, Sarah Shook & The Disarmers and Lido Pimienta.
You still have time to get tickets which they are selling at the Sheraton downtown. This event is very well organized. Food and merchandise venders are everywhere, and lots of facilities to take care of “business”. Even hand sanitizing stations. They got this down
